The Campus at a Glance

Before anything else, get oriented. The AISA campus has nine gates and a cluster of buildings and facilities. Knowing where things are β€” and which gate is which β€” makes everything from arrival to an emergency drill go smoothly.

Section 2 Β· Important

AISA Is a High-Risk Entity β€” Safety Is Shared

Abu Dhabi classifies schools as either High-Risk or Medium-Risk entities. The classification is based on:

Nature & complexity of operations (tasks/activities)
Number of employees (excluding contractors)
Maximum number of other persons (students & contractors)
Use / handling of hazardous materials & wastes
Complexity of buildings & associated structures
Entity land area & number of locations

πŸ›‘οΈ What this means for you

AISA is classified as High-Risk. Being a High-Risk Entity means health and safety is a shared responsibility between all staff, students, contractors, and even visitors.

During audits, the audit team may approach you to check that you're aware of your school's High-Risk status. Now you are.

πŸ“£ How OSH responsibilities reach you

Every employee is responsible for working safely, following procedures, and reporting hazards. HR communicates Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) roles, responsibilities and accountabilities through three channels:

Section 3

Security Arrangements & Identification

πŸͺͺ

Visible identification

All staff must wear their AISA ID badge visibly at all times while on campus.

🧍

Visitor & contractor control

All visitors, parents and external contractors must enter through designated security checkpoints (such as Gate 4), register, present a valid Emirates ID, and wear a colour-coded visitor lanyard while on site.

πŸ“Ή

Campus monitoring

The campus is monitored 24/7 by CCTV cameras and on-site guard patrols, in compliance with Abu Dhabi safety regulations.

Risk Status & Security

An auditor stops you in a corridor and asks about your school's safety status. What is the correct, accurate response?

A "Safety is handled entirely by the security team, not teaching staff."
B "AISA is a High-Risk Entity, so health and safety is a shared responsibility across all staff, students, contractors and visitors."
C "AISA is a Medium-Risk Entity, so the rules are lighter."
D "I'm not sure β€” risk classification isn't something staff need to know."
Section 5

Traffic Management, Parking Zones & Gate Timings

Arrival and dismissal are the busiest, highest-risk moments of the day. Parking is colour-coded into four zones, and each gate has a defined use, time window and speed limit.

πŸ…ΏοΈ The four parking zones

Green β€” Parents
Red β€” Staff
Yellow β€” Buses
Purple β€” Overflow

Campus parking map. Green = parents, red = staff, yellow = buses, purple = overflow.

πŸŒ… Morning drop-off Β· 7:25–8:00 AM

  • Buses use the Bus Loop / Yellow Zone, drop at the curb and exit immediately. No parents in the Bus Loop.
  • Parents use the Parent Lane / Green Zone as a one-way Kiss-and-Go β€” drop curb-side, don't park or exit the car, then move on.
  • Staff/visitors use Staff Parking / Red Zone; visitors check in at the main gate first.

πŸŒ† Afternoon pick-up Β· 2:50–3:10 PM

  • Buses load at the Yellow Zone and depart strictly on schedule; missed-bus students go to a safe waiting area.
  • Parents queue in the Green Zone; staff escort students to the car. No student crosses the Parent Lane unattended β€” slow loads go to Overflow / Purple parking.
  • Pedestrians exit only through supervised pedestrian gates and walkways.

General Safety in Your Classroom & Corridors

πŸšͺ Housekeeping

Corridors, stairwells and fire-exit doors must remain completely unobstructed at all times.

⚠️ Trip & fall prevention

Report trailing cables, loose mats or damaged flooring immediately. Wet areas during cleaning must be marked with yellow warning signs.

πŸͺœ Working at height

Never stand on student desks, chairs or spinning office chairs to hang decorations. Use an approved step ladder or log a request with maintenance.

πŸ”Œ Electrical & chemical

Use electrical equipment safely and report damaged items. Where applicable, handle, store and dispose of hazardous substances safely.

πŸ› οΈ Work order requests

Submit all maintenance, repair, furniture setup, moving and facilities requests through the Workflow Work Order Request Form so they're tracked, assigned and completed on time. Avoid verbal-only requests unless it's an emergency.

Section 7 Β· Critical

Emergency Procedures β€” Fire, Evacuation & Lockdown

πŸ”₯ Fire detection & extinguishers

Campus facilities are monitored by automated fire alarms connected directly to Abu Dhabi Civil Defence via the Hassantuk framework. Only use a fire extinguisher if all four are true:

βœ” You're trained to do so βœ” You know the classification βœ” It is not spreading rapidly βœ” You have a clear escape path

🚨 Evacuation (continuous siren)

  • 1. Cease instruction immediately; students leave bags behind.
  • 2. Guide the class calmly along the route on the evacuation map.
  • 3. Go to your assigned assembly zone β€” e.g. the Football Pitch.
  • 4. Take a headcount against your roster; signal your sector marshal with status cards β€” Green (all present) or Red (missing or extra students).

πŸ”’ Lockdown (PA announcement)

For an external campus threat, a lockdown directive is broadcast over the PA. Immediately:

  • β€’ Pull students in from corridors
  • β€’ Lock doors, close blinds, turn off lights
  • β€’ Have students sit quietly out of sight-lines
  • β€’ Wait for the official "All Clear" announcement
?
Knowledge Check 2

Emergency Response

A continuous fire-alarm siren sounds mid-lesson. What is the correct sequence?

A Let students collect their bags, then find the nearest fire extinguisher and tackle the fire.
B Stop teaching, have students leave bags, guide them along the evacuation route to the assembly point, then take a headcount and signal with the Green/Red status cards.
C Lock the door, close the blinds and keep students sitting quietly out of sight.
D Wait in the classroom for a second announcement before doing anything.
Section 8

First Aid, Medical & Quick Reference

πŸ₯ School clinic

The campus has a fully equipped clinic staffed by licensed Department of Health (DoH) medical professionals.

🧰 Where to find first-aid kits

  • β€’ Every building and floor
  • β€’ Every school bus
  • β€’ The clinic
  • β€’ The swimming pool

Five things to remember

βœ” Wear your AISA ID badge visibly, always.
βœ” Keep corridors, stairwells and fire exits clear.
βœ” Never stand on furniture β€” use a step ladder or log a work order.
βœ” Continuous siren β†’ evacuate to the assembly point & headcount.
βœ” PA lockdown β†’ doors locked, blinds closed, out of sight, await All Clear.
βœ” Report hazards immediately β€” safety is shared.
