Getting the Room to Think (Aloud!)
Questioning is the catalyst. Oracy is the goal. الأسئلة هي المحفّز، والتواصل الشفهي (Oracy) هو الهدف.
Do students use talk to think, listen, develop ideas and learn? The same kind of question, asked two ways, shows that more voices is not better oracy: better connections between ideas is. Then the routines that open the door to talk, the dialogue skills students have to be taught, what observers look for, and a redesign of a real lesson. هل يستخدم الطلاب الحديث ليفكّروا ويُصغوا ويطوّروا أفكارهم ويتعلّموا؟ سؤالان من النوع نفسه، يُطرح كلٌّ منهما بطريقة مختلفة، يبيّنان أنّ كثرة الأصوات لا تعني تواصلاً شفهياً أفضل، وإنّما الروابط الأقوى بين الأفكار. ثم الروتينات التي تفتح الباب للحديث، ومهارات الحوار التي يجب تعليمها للطلاب، وما يبحث عنه المراقبون، وإعادة تصميم درس حقيقي.

You already know about differentiation. This session is about planning it before students hit a barrier you could have predicted: a passage in Arabic that only part of the room can read, a Grade 7 maths class with three different barriers, a reactive-or-proactive card sort, and four prompts that turn a prediction into a plan. أنتم تعرفون التمايز مسبقاً. تدور هذه الجلسة حول التخطيط له قبل أن يصطدم الطلاب بعائق كان يمكن توقّعه: نصّ بالعربية لا يقرؤه إلا بعض الحاضرين، وصفّ رياضيات في الصف السابع فيه ثلاثة عوائق مختلفة، وتصنيف بطاقات بين التمايز التفاعلي والاستباقي، وأربعة أسئلة تحوّل التوقّع إلى خطة.

Make the formative checks you already use more useful, and turn what they show into an instructional decision: check, interpret, respond, recheck. The session starts from a decision, shows what formative evidence looks like in every subject (PE, the arts and design included), puts you to work as a data detective on a Grade 7 science exit ticket, and ends with one formative check designed for a lesson you are teaching soon, logged in a simple tracker that is not another gradebook. اجعلوا الاختبارات التكوينية التي تستخدمونها أصلاً أكثر فائدة، وحوّلوا ما تكشفه إلى قرار تعليمي: تحقّقوا، ثم فسّروا، ثم استجيبوا، ثم أعيدوا التحقّق. تبدأ الجلسة بقرار، وتعرض كيف يبدو الدليل التكويني في كل مادة، بما فيها التربية البدنية والفنون والتصميم، ثم تضعكم في دور «محقّق البيانات» أمام بطاقة خروج في العلوم للصف السابع، وتنتهي باختبار تكويني واحد تصمّمونه لدرس ستدرّسونه قريباً، وتسجّلونه في متتبّع بسيط ليس سجلّ درجات آخر.

The formative assessment tracker متتبّع التقييم التكويني
